Can you tell us about the journey of your company to date?

In 2014, Emmanuel Ekpenyong joined other partners to establish Fred-Young & Evans, Legal Practitioners, a full service commercial law firm and Fred-Young Recoveries, an international debt collection firm. Since its inception, the firm has acted as Company Secretary and Counsel to reputable construction companies, real estate firms, oil and gas companies, engineering firms, power generating and distribution firms as well as manufacturing companies. We are consistently retained to draft complex transaction documents and to give general and specific legal advice for smooth running of diverse businesses in Nigeria. We have won many international awards on commercial law, foreign investments, debt collection, and commercial litigations, amongst others. Our firm is the sole Nigerian commercial litigation expert on IR Global, Leaders in Law, Advisory Excellence and the corporate expert in The Lawyer’s Network. We are the sole Nigerian Debt Collection expert on Global Law Experts and the sole Nigerian Partner in International Credit Exchange. We are the Nigerian Legal Expert on Start-up Overseas.

Firms and corporations are crossing international borders and expanding across the globe through mergers, acquisitions, consolidation, and collaboration with foreign counsel. Tell us about your compliance model.

Interestingly, the large population and consumer base in Nigeria and favourable government policies on foreign investments presents a huge opportunity for increased foreign interest in the healthcare, education, real estate and construction, telecommunications and financial sectors. This has inevitably led to the need for improved corporate governance in these sectors. The privatisation of the power sector has drawn the attention of reputable international power firms to Nigeria and this has made the sector competitive towards an improved power supply in the country. In the face of falling crude oil prices, the Federal Government has shifted its attention to non-oil sectors. This has created more opportunities for investors especially in the agriculture and solid minerals sectors.  Our firm’s knowledge of the Nigerian market, experience on foreign investments and comprehensive approach in business advisory services has indeed positioned us to better advise foreign investors and their advisers on viable business concerns and formidable business compositions in Nigeria.

How do you deal with changing legal paradigms?

Law like every other human endeavor is not static. We know that innovation and changes in legal practices are inevitable. In most cases, the change in legal paradigms leads to a more effective way of doing things and brings greater efficiency and improved service delivery in any given practice area. Our membership in local and international networks has put us in a good stead to discover the changes in time and apply them to our business endeavors and that of our Clients. This has equipped us to provide modern legal services in Nigeria’s ever changing economy.

What is the most important factor that contributes to your success?

We offer an array of legal services in support of our Clients’ businesses. We consistently proffer commercially focused, time and cost effective as well as result oriented legal advice to challenging commercial transaction and disputes. We combine industry-leading insight with responsiveness in a way that promotes our Clients’ interests. Our wide range of practical corporate practice and litigation experience has positioned our firm to offer effective solutions to complex disputes and problems.
