The inception of Anywhere in Africa Safaris was rooted in Kirsty Gordon’s passion for travel, Africa’s natural beauty, and life-changing adventures. Kirsty’s journey in the travel industry began after completing a travel and tourism diploma, along with a marketing diploma. She gained experience working in various travel companies, starting with corporate travel agencies and later transitioning into the corporate incentive and event management sectors.
At the age of 29, Kirsty embarked on a new venture, establishing one of the first online travel companies in Africa. She initially focused on offering packages within Africa’s local market but soon identified a gap in the international market, particularly targeting clients from the USA. During camping trips to Botswana, she recognized an opportunity to introduce exclusive and high-end “Glam Camping” experiences, featuring top chefs and expert guiding. Kirsty successfully ran these trips for a few years before selling her companies to pursue her dream of competing in the Olympics as a 3-Day Eventing rider for South Africa.
Although her Olympic dream was cut short due to a horse riding accident and slipped disks in her back, Kirsty remained determined to follow her passion for Africa. In 2008, she made the decision to return to South Africa and establish a high-end boutique travel company, focusing primarily on the USA market. This marked the birth of Anywhere in Africa Safaris.
